ABOUT ABOUT

This installment of MuraLAB—Mural Arts’ think-tank-style programming—is presented by Restored Spaces, a Mural Arts initiative that uses socially engaged public art as a platform for neighborhood change. Our June event features Basurama, a Madrid-based artist collective dedicated to research alongside cultural and environmental creation. Their practice revolves around trash, waste, and reuse, and they’re currently at work on a Restored Spaces project at Southwark School about the global waste stream.

Basurama will be joined by Ron Whyte (activist and blogger, Deep Green Philly), Nic Esposito (Director, City of Philadelphia Zero Waste and Litter Cabinet), and Raquel de Anda (artist; Director of Public Engagement, No Longer Empty). Together, they’ll complicate the issue of trash by considering its relationship to environmental justice and climate change.
